Support is the only function where the software talks to the people who pay you. That single fact changes what a good bot looks like. In sales a bad automated message costs a deal that was never certain. In support it lands in front of someone who is already annoyed, already paying, and about to decide whether your company is the kind that reads its own mail.
So this ranking is built on one rule, and it disqualifies rather than deducts: nothing reaches a customer without a human reading it first. Every setup below satisfies that rule, which is why the ordering has to be decided on a different axis entirely.

The rule sounds obvious and it eliminates most of what gets marketed to support teams. Anything that auto-replies, anything that closes a ticket on a confidence threshold, anything that decides a customer's question was answered: out. Not because those systems never work, but because their failure mode is a customer receiving something no human read, and that failure is unrecoverable in a way a slow reply is not.
What survives is a category people underrate: bots that shape work for humans rather than replacing the human at the end of it. Every listing in this directory declares a boundary line, the one action it never takes without you, and in support that line is the buying criterion.

One, Inbox Triage. Runs on Gmail and Slack, sorts and labels the queue every morning, and drafts replies for the small number of threads that genuinely need a person. Nothing sends. Wrong for you if you already run a mature helpdesk with rules-based routing, where a probabilistic sorter is a downgrade from a deterministic one that has been tuned for two years.
Two, Account Expert. One bot per strategic account, fed by Slack, Gmail, Gong, and Granola, answering internal questions about that account so an agent stops reconstructing history from three tools. It never messages the customer. Wrong for you in high-volume consumer support, where nobody has a named account and the setup cost per customer is absurd.
Three, Persistent Bot Memory. Writes what your bots learn into a single GitHub repository so knowledge survives a bot being deleted. Its boundary is unusually strict and unusually important here: never secrets, tokens, passwords, or customer data. Score the six on blast radius, review cost, and failure shape
Blast radius decides the order. It does not tell you what each setup takes from your week or how it goes wrong, and that is the half of a ranking that usually goes unwritten.

Read the failure column downward and a pattern appears. The bots at the top fail in ways you can see, and the bots in the middle fail by not being read, which is the failure nobody puts on a roadmap. That is also why our order is not simply "most useful first": a setup whose failure is invisible needs a smaller share of your review budget, not a larger one.
Put triage first until your ten biggest accounts pass 60 percent
Triage is first because its output touches everything that arrived today, and it arrives again tomorrow. Account Expert produces something deeper that only ever helps the tickets from one logo.
The number that flips this is concentration. If more than roughly 60 percent of your ticket volume comes from your top ten accounts, which is normal in B2B support with a small customer count, then two or three account bots cover most of your queue and the ordering inverts. Below that, triage wins by a wide margin, and building account bots first means investing heavily in a thin slice. Work out your own concentration before you take our order.
Positions four and five are the ones we expect argument about, because a forecast that runs daily sounds strictly better than a flag that runs daily. The distinction we are drawing is between evidence and prediction. Churn Watch hands you a trail you can read and disagree with. A forecast hands you a number, and numbers get believed. In a function where the wrong intervention is itself damaging, evidence you can check ranks above a score you cannot.

The second row is the one we would defend hardest. In consumer-scale support, one setup on this list applies cleanly, and the honest answer is that the rest of the ranking is not for you rather than that you should adopt it in a diminished form.
Name what bots do badly on a support queue
You can measure triage precision and not recall. When a bot labels something urgent and it is not, you see it immediately. When a bot buries a serious ticket in the low-priority bucket, you find out when the customer escalates, if they escalate rather than leave. Every accuracy number you will ever see about a triage bot is computed from the half of the confusion matrix you can observe. Sample the low-priority bucket by hand each week, or you are measuring nothing.
Handling every ticket well destroys the signal in the aggregate. Support is two jobs wearing one badge: answering questions, and being the company's early warning system. The second job runs on a human noticing that three people asked about the same thing this week. A per-ticket bot is very good at the first job and quietly corrosive to the second, because it resolves each instance smoothly and nothing accumulates into a pattern anyone sees. This is the most expensive thing bots do to a support organisation and almost nobody accounts for it.
Drafts regress to your median reply, and quality lives in the tail. A bot trained on your best answers still produces the average of them: competent, structured, complete, and tonally wrong for the customer who is furious. That customer needs to be heard before they are helped, and a polite comprehensive answer reads as being processed. Agents know this. Draft assistance makes it slightly harder to do, because editing toward the right register is more work than writing it.
There is no audit view yet. The runtime documentation stated, when we checked it on 25 August 2026, that an audit view of Bot actions does not exist. Verify that before you rely on it. For a support organisation, which is the function most likely to be asked who accessed a given customer's data and when, that is a real gap rather than a missing convenience. Until it ships, your answer to that question is whatever your own logging produces.
Files outlive the bot that made them. All bots on an account share one persistent cloud computer, with shared files and browser sessions, and deleting a bot does not remove those shared files or sessions. A support bot that writes a scratch file containing a customer's ticket history leaves that file behind after the bot is gone. This is precisely why the memory setup at position three draws its boundary at customer data, and why you should keep that boundary even when it is inconvenient.
Review load spikes exactly when you have none. During an incident your queue triples, so your triage bot's draft output triples, and the humans who would review those drafts are on the incident. Bots add review work in proportion to volume, which means they add the most work at the worst moment. Decide in advance what the bots stop doing during an incident, and write it down before you need it.

Rows one, three and six are the ones that look like success from a distance. In all three the bot is doing exactly what it was asked to do, the dashboard is green, and the damage is happening in the part of the queue nobody is looking at. That is the argument for the sample in row one being non-negotiable rather than a nice habit.
Answer the objection that review does not scale past a hundred tickets a day
The strongest argument against the rule at the top of this article: requiring a human to read everything is a luxury of low volume. At two thousand tickets a day, deflection is the entire business case, and a ranking that disqualifies auto-reply has disqualified the only thing that would have helped.
Two honest responses. The first is that the rule costs most teams nothing, because a human already writes and sends every reply. In that world "nothing reaches a customer unreviewed" is a description of your current process, not a new tax, and the setups above make that process faster without changing who is accountable for the words.
The second is that the objection wins outright in one specific place: a high-volume queue with a large share of questions that have exactly one correct answer, where the alternative to an instant automated reply is a two-day wait. Password resets and order status are the honest examples. If you are there, the conditions we would insist on are narrow: a single unambiguous answer, an obvious one-click route to a human, a measured wrong-answer rate rather than a confidence score, and a weekly human sample of what went out. Even then the failure is unrecoverable, so it should be a deliberate trade rather than a default. The handoff design is its own problem, worked through in handing a conversation back to a human.
Build the one bot that looks across tickets, not at them
The second limitation above deserves a countermeasure rather than a warning, and it is the one setup a support team should build themselves. Its whole job is to look across tickets rather than at them:

Section four is the one people skip and the one that matters. An account that went from ten tickets to zero has either become happy or stopped caring, and those look identical in every dashboard you own.
Compute two numbers before you accept our order
Our ranking is a hypothesis about your queue. Two numbers test it, both available from an export you already have, and both able to come back and tell you we were wrong.
The concentration ratio. Take ninety days of closed tickets, group them by account, and sum the ten largest as a share of the total. Exclude automated alerts and spam, because they inflate the denominator and flatter triage. Above 60 percent, Account Expert goes first and you build two or three of them before you touch anything else. Below 40 percent, our order stands as written. In between, build triage first and exactly one account bot, and let the next quarter decide.
The repeat rate. Of the tickets closed this month, how many share an underlying cause with a ticket from the previous ninety days? Above roughly a third and Persistent Bot Memory is underranked for your queue, because the value of a repository is entirely in tickets that rhyme with earlier ones.
If you cannot compute the first number because your helpdesk has no reliable account field, that is not a failed exercise, it is the answer: account-scoped setups are not available to you, and the top of your list is triage regardless of what any ranking says.
Four situations rewrite this list rather than reorder it
In each of these the honest advice is a different list, not a different order.
Follow-the-sun coverage. A bot that produces its output at 07:00 in one timezone is producing it for an empty room in another, and a queue handed between three regions needs its artifacts written at handover points rather than at a morning hour that only exists in one office.
Multilingual queues. Every setup here assumes the reviewer can read what the bot produced. A draft in a language nobody on shift reads is not a draft, it is an unreviewed reply waiting for someone tired to approve it.
Regulated verticals. Where retention rules govern how long a customer record may be held and where it may sit, the shared-file behaviour described above is not a caveat, it is a compliance question you must answer before the first bot runs.
An active incident. During one, the ranking inverts entirely: the briefing becomes the most valuable thing on the list and triage becomes the most dangerous, because that is exactly when a serious ticket gets sorted into the routine bucket alongside two hundred others saying the same thing.
Six, not eight, and why we did not pad the list
Most rankings in this format run to ten because ten is a better headline. Our catalogue contains six setups we would actually put on a support team, so the list is six. The rest of the directory is built for marketing, sales, engineering, and personal work, and dressing one of those up as a support tool would cost you a fortnight before you noticed.
