Should Overflow Push You to a Higher Grok Bot Plan

The upgrade cart that opens after overflow is usually a five-minute inbox bot you have not paused, not a grok bot plan that ran out of capacity.

Overflow is an included weekly pool, then on-demand work billed from model and token cost if the plan allows it (Grok Bot FAQ). It is not a SKU ladder, not a documented mid-week refill, and not a prompt to leave Pro+ for Ultra because Tuesday's briefing was blank.

This page is the after-spike decision: stay and pause versus Pro+ versus Plus versus Teams versus Ultra. It is not the cheapest door, the Pro+ stamp, the Friday review, or the this-hour bleed-stop. If those clocks are still live, do that hour first.

Prices checked 25 August 2026, plan access rechecked 23 September 2026, against cursor.com/pricing, Cursor team pricing, and x.ai/pricing. Confirm the live invoice. This page will not invent a weekly allowance dollar. It will not print a SuperGrok Heavy price. Heavy is eligible. Its number is not on the vendor page.

Treat overflow as a SKU question only after every five-minute clock is paused

The question should overflow push you to a higher plan has a prerequisite the billing UI will not ask. Pause first.

A five-minute inbox job is 12 fires an hour. If nights stay on, that is 288 fires in a day. Those counts are arithmetic from the clock, not a measured pool size and not a price. The included weekly allowance has no published dollar, credit, or run figure. You cannot prove those 288 fires would have fit a larger SKU. You can prove the clock is still armed.

Pause every standing routine, including the quiet ones. All bots share one persistent cloud computer assigned to the user, not to a bot (computer and apps). The weekly pool follows that grain. Inbox Triage on five minutes can empty the week for Chief of Staff Briefing and Standup Scribe without those two looking busy. Lead Scout and Churn Watch on daily clocks can look innocent in the same hour.

The phone app can pause, resume, open run history, and delete a routine. It cannot edit or test one (mobile). Resume is the danger. One tap puts the poller back into on-demand. Closing the laptop is not a pause. Hide is not a pause. Teach-by-demonstration records up to ten minutes and produces a draft skill. That is more work on an empty pool. Do not use it to reconstruct the burn while you shop a SKU.

Park this decision off the door-in page, the Pro+ stamp page, Friday, and this-hour stop

Send the wrong hour to the wrong page and you will buy Ultra while a five-minute clock is still scheduled.

Quota language is quota exceeded. The two-phase meter is weekly allowance. Stay here for the cart. There are desktop apps for macOS, Windows and Linux, and companion apps for iPhone (iOS 18 or later) and Android (9 or later); the iOS app also runs on iPad (FAQ). Switching devices does not refill the week.

Confirm the invoice already names an eligible grok bot door

Overflow on Grok Bot only happens if Grok Bot already ran. If it already ran, you already held an eligible path, or you spent trial credit. A higher plan is then a second door, not the first.

Eligible paid paths, widened 21 August 2026 (more plans) and again since: every paid Cursor plan (Pro, Pro+, Ultra), every member of a self-serve Cursor Teams plan, and a linked individual SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, SuperGrok Heavy or X Premium+ subscription, plus a one-time trial (FAQ). Cursor Hobby, the free plan, does not include Grok Bot.

Read the invoice spelling, then the in-app entitlement, then the vendor page. Do not infer eligibility from a Slack screenshot or from this article. Privacy Mode (Legacy) blocks Grok Bot entirely (teams and enterprises). A correct Ultra invoice will not save you if that mode is on.

If the invoice already says Pro, Pro+, Ultra, Teams, or a linked SuperGrok, Plus, Heavy or X Premium+, you already bought a door. Overflow did not revoke it. The after-spike default is stay. The work is pause.

If the invoice still says Hobby, or a SuperGrok subscription you never linked, you should not have a standing roster. Overflow language then usually means the one-time trial, or an invoice you are misreading. Confirm before you convert panic into Ultra. The exclusion page is that spelling. The trial page is the meter.

Refuse any quoted allowance dollar while you rank a higher plan

Roundups will quote a pool size. A coworker will quote credits. None of those is a published allowance figure for a purchase order.

Eligible subscriptions include a weekly usage allowance. Overflow is on-demand, billed from model and token cost. No published page prints that allowance as dollars, credits, or runs. This article will not invent one. If a page quotes a figure, treat the rest of that page as untrusted too, especially if it also quotes SuperGrok Heavy.

There is no Grok Bot-specific spend cap (teams and enterprises). The account-level On-demand monthly limit is the only ceiling, and it sits on the account, not on a SKU. Stepping from sixty to two hundred does not raise a Bot ceiling. There is no model picker. An approval does not reverse work already completed (approvals, security and privacy). Paying a higher SKU does not undo Monday's polls.

Rank stay, Pro+, Plus, Teams, and Ultra as five after-spike answers

Five answers. Only one of them is "buy a higher plan." Four of the five are "you already had a door" or "you are buying people, not capacity."

After-spike answerRight whenWrong whenWhat it still does not buy

Cursor Ultra at $200You already wanted Ultra for the editorTuesday was blank and inbox is still on five minutesA Bot spend cap, a published allowance dollar

Stay is the default once a door exists. Cursor Pro at $20 is the cheapest paid door if a door does not exist; Pro+ and Ultra raise the weekly tier. SuperGrok Plus is the xAI door. Teams Standard is a per-person stamp, not a capacity upgrade. Ultra is an editor SKU that happens to include Bot. Heavy stays off the priced rows. Confirm it on the live xAI page.

With both a Cursor subscription and a SuperGrok subscription, Grok Bot uses whichever has more usage (FAQ). That is not documented as a Tuesday refill. Both subscriptions is that model.

Stay on the current SKU when the poller was the only new spend

If Monday you only changed the inbox clock, Tuesday is not a plan problem.

Stay means: pause every routine, delete or disable the five-minute owner at a desk, leave briefing and standup paused, do today's packs yourself or skip them, and keep the invoice you already have. Stay does not mean leave the poller running and hope next week's unpublished pool is larger.

A routine assigns a workflow to one Bot. Max 50 routines per Bot. The app keeps the 20 most recent run records per routine. Deleting a Bot deletes its routines (skills, routines and automations). A five-minute inbox card at 1 of 50 is still the fire. Rank clocks, not sidebar clutter.

Mail Cleanup Assistant on a leftover Sunday is unused spend. Pause it. Retry is not stay. If overflow is on, try-again is on-demand work. Confirm overflow in the product once. The bot reports the pool is empty and waits. Do not create inbox-2 on five minutes from iPhone while the original is paused. Duplicate does not isolate cookies. Two enabled copies is two fires.

Open Cursor Pro+ only if Pro runs dry every week with sane clocks

Cursor Pro at $20 is the cheapest paid door, checked 23 September 2026. Pro+ at $60 is the right after-spike buy only when the clocks are already sane and Pro's weekly tier still runs dry every week.

Overflow on a trial is not proof you should convert at two hundred. Overflow on Pro or Pro+ is proof you already converted. If you are still on Hobby, you were not supposed to have a fleet of standing routines. Pause, then decide whether the job repeats. If it does not, walk away. The trial is one time. If it does, buy Pro as a door, then write the clock at twice a weekday, never five minutes. How to schedule a routine is that create.

Pro+ does not mint extra Bot knobs. You receive the same Grok Bot every eligible plan receives: a named agent on a managed Linux VM, non-root, a screen per bot. Sixty instead of twenty buys a higher weekly tier, not a cap, a picker, a dedicated machine, or an audit view. What a Grok bot is is that object. Do not open a dummy Cursor team to reach a door Pro already opens.

Keep SuperGrok Plus as the xAI house, not as a refill of this week

An individual SuperGrok Plus subscription can be linked for Grok Bot access, and so can SuperGrok, SuperGrok Heavy and X Premium+. After a spike, Plus is not a larger tank you can prove.

If the invoice already says SuperGrok Plus, stay there. Do not add Cursor Ultra on Tuesday because overflow sounded like Cursor capacity. Do not step from Plus to Heavy because a roundup printed a Heavy price this page will not repeat.

Choose Plus over Pro+ only when a Cursor editor seat would be waste, and only when you still lack a door. That shopping-from-zero fork belongs on the cheapest door page and on the Plus stamp page. After a spike, the fork is almost never live, because something already ran.

If you already hold both Plus and a Cursor eligible plan, Grok Bot uses whichever has more usage. Do not assume the second subscription pours a fresh weekly pool into the first. Heavy is eligible. Its allowance is as unpublished as everyone else's.

Buy a Teams seat only for a person who needs a computer, never to enlarge a pool

Every member of a self-serve Cursor Teams plan has Grok Bot, with no Premium seat required. A Premium seat includes the same Bot. Both are per-person stamps. The computer is assigned to the user account, not to a bot, and not to the Cursor team object in billing.

Buying three more seats does not enlarge the Tuesday pool on your user. It mints three more accounts, three more computers, three more weekly meters. Routines still live on one Bot. You cannot reassign an inbox bot by buying Premium. You copy the charter as text onto the new seat.

Premium is a richer Cursor SKU. It is the same Grok Bot. If finance wants Premium because overflow needs a company plan, this page says no. A company spend cap for Bot is not shipped. An org audit view of Bot actions is Enterprise only, not on self-serve Teams. A dummy team of one still leaves you with one computer, one pool, and a five-minute clock. Pause the poller. Seat questions wait.

Leave Cursor Ultra and unpublished Heavy off the after-spike cart

Cursor Ultra at $200 includes Grok Bot. That sentence is true and still the wrong after-spike purchase for most invoices.

Ultra was a reasonable individual floor in the first week after launch on 11 August 2026, before eligibility widened on 21 August 2026. Roundups that still start at two hundred are describing a list that no longer exists. If you already wanted Ultra for the editor, overflow did not change that PO. If you did not want it yesterday, blank Tuesday is not a reason to want it this morning.

Ultra does not attach a Bot-specific spend cap, a published allowance size, a model picker, a private VM per bot, an audit view, or a mid-week refill. Confirm editor extras on cursor.com/pricing. SuperGrok Heavy is eligible. Leave it off the cart until x.ai/pricing prints a number. If you already sit on Ultra, stay. Pause the poller. You are over-clocked, not under-bought.

Walk Yara from Tuesday 07:00 blank briefing to a billing tab she closes

Yara runs a one-person studio. She already holds Cursor Pro+ at $60 from the 21 August widening. She does not need a door. She needs a pause.

Monday 24 August 2026, 08:15. A vendor thread feels hot. Twice a weekday on Inbox Triage feels slow. She sets every five minutes. Labels only. Draft replies. Never send. The charter is otherwise right. The clock is the mistake. Chief of Staff Briefing stays on weekdays at 07:00. Standup Scribe stays on weekdays at 09:00, DM only. Mail Cleanup Assistant still has a Sunday leftover from a July mailbox tidy.

Monday 08:15 through Tuesday 07:00 is about 23 hours. At 12 fires an hour that is about 276 inbox runs if nights stay on. Treat 276 as arithmetic from the clock, an arbitrary worked count, not a measured pool and not a price. Briefing ran once Monday. Standup ran once Monday. Two useful runs, then hundreds of polls against the same unpublished weekly pool.

Tuesday 25 August 2026, 07:00. The briefing is blank. Quota language is on the card. At 07:12 Yara opens billing. Ultra at $200 looks like capacity. Plus looks like a second house. A roundup tab still quotes SuperGrok Heavy. She almost switches Pro+ to Ultra because overflow sounded like the $60 door was too small. The five-minute clock is still armed. The Sunday leftover is still armed.

07:20 is the fork. Pause every routine from the phone. At a desktop, copy the inbox wording, then delete that card so resume cannot put five minutes back. Leave briefing and standup paused. Close the Ultra tab. Do not retry the briefing to see if $200 would have helped. Success on retry, if overflow is on, is a purchase, not a refill. Yara stays on Pro+ at $60. The failure was the clock, dated Tuesday 25 August 2026, set Monday at 08:15. A higher plan would have inherited the same five-minute owner.

Paste a stay-or-upgrade sheet that cannot invent a Heavy price

Write the decision before the cart can write it for you. Paste this into a file you own, not into a bot that can initiate spend.

retry later, stop. Report that the weekly pool is empty. Wait.
Never initiate a paid upgrade, a credit top-up, or on-demand work
to keep going. Never send, pay, or publish while the pool is empty.
Never set inbox work tighter than twice a weekday.
Never treat overflow as permission to keep running.

Prove the decision with a check that can fail. Four facts: the pause time, the tightest remaining clock, the invoice spelling, and whether the higher-SKU cart is closed. Pass: every routine paused, no five-minute owner left live, invoice already eligible or a missing door written as Pro, Pro+ or Plus, cart closed. Fail: inbox still on five minutes, you paid Ultra before pause, you wrote an allowance dollar, you wrote a Heavy price.

A passed check is not a resume. Stay paused until you have a written weekday clock and a desk. Rebuild inbox as a new named owner, twice a weekday, after the old five-minute card is gone. Deleting that card removes its routines. It does not sign out Gmail. Delete a bot safely is a later hour.

Answer the finance lead who treats overflow as a mandate to upgrade

The strongest case for buying a higher plan after overflow is simple. The product ran out of included usage. Included usage is what you pay the SKU for. If $60 emptied on Tuesday, $200 is the grown-up invoice. Staying is leaving the company blocked. Overflow is the meter telling you the door is too small. Pause is stalling. Finance would rather have a line item than a missing briefing.

Grant the meter. Eligible plans include a weekly pool, then on-demand. A blank Tuesday is real work that did not ship. A PO for Ultra is a number finance can file.

The argument still loses as a standing rule. Cursor's plans page does rank the tiers (Pro below Pro+, Pro+ below Ultra), but no page prints the size of any of them, and a Plus or Heavy link never stacks on a Cursor plan. Heavy still has no printed price. No published page says a SKU change resets what the week already spent. Docs still say there is no Grok Bot-specific spend cap. A five-minute inbox bot will eat an unpublished pool on Ultra the same way it ate one on Pro+. You will find that out the next Tuesday, with a larger editor invoice.

Where the argument wins is not overflow. The invoice is still Hobby, or a SuperGrok subscription nobody linked, the trial meter is spent, and the job repeats. Then you open a door: Pro at $20 or a SuperGrok link, not Ultra at $200 unless the editor SKU was already the PO. It also wins when every clock is already sane and the pool still empties every week: that is what the higher weekly tiers are for. Named people who need accounts buy Teams seats. That is headcount, not a refill. Where it wins for one morning: you already wanted Ultra for the editor, clocks are already paused, and the five-minute owner is already deleted. Buy Ultra for the editor. Do not file the memo as Bot required two hundred because of overflow. Finance can have a true line item: pause issued, poller deleted, SKU unchanged, no invented allowance dollar.

Stop using this page once the poller is gone and the door is already open

This page stops applying the moment the after-spike cart is the wrong object.

If a five-minute clock is still live, you are in the this-hour stop. Come back after pause. If you never had an eligible invoice, you are in the cheapest door. If you want the weekly ritual that should have caught the poller before Tuesday, that is the Friday review. If you are moving from Pro at twenty to Pro+ at sixty with no spike, that is the Pro+ stamp. If you need the two-phase meter without a purchase order, that is weekly allowance. Worth waits until the poller is gone: is Grok Bot worth it.

The boundary is yours, because the product will not cap a bot for you. The account-level On-demand monthly limit is the only ceiling it offers. You never let overflow auto-upgrade the invoice. You never invent an allowance dollar. You never print a Heavy price. You never let the bot initiate a paid upgrade to keep working. You never resume a five-minute inbox routine in the same week the pool emptied. Inbox Triage still never sends. Standup Scribe still never posts to a shared channel. Stay is the after-spike default when a door already exists. Pause is how stay is allowed to be true.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should overflow push you to a higher grok bot plan?

Not by default. Overflow means the included weekly pool is empty and further work is on-demand from model and token cost, if your plan allows it. A higher SKU raises the weekly tier, but it is not a published pool size, not a spend cap, and not a documented reset of what you already spent. Pause every routine first, especially any five-minute inbox clock. Stay on the invoice you already hold if that invoice is already Pro, Pro+, Ultra, Teams, or a linked SuperGrok. Step up only if you still lack a door and the job actually repeats.

Does buying Cursor Ultra refill this week's empty pool?

Moving from Pro+ to Ultra raises included Grok Bot usage to the Ultra tier, the highest, but no published page says it resets what the week already spent. Cursor Ultra at two hundred dollars a month includes Grok Bot. So do Cursor Pro+ at sixty and Pro at twenty. All three meter a weekly allowance, then on-demand overflow. None prints a dollar figure for that allowance. Neither ships a Grok Bot-specific spend cap. If a five-minute inbox bot emptied Pro+, the same clock can empty Ultra. Pause the clock. Confirm live prices on the Cursor pricing page. Do not treat two hundred as the fix for a five-minute clock.

I already pay Cursor Pro+. Should I add SuperGrok Plus after overflow?

Only if you want the xAI house for reasons that are not this Tuesday. Cursor's plans page says linking SuperGrok Plus on Pro+ does not add Grok Bot usage: the two never stack, Grok Bot uses whichever has more, and the link is permanent. Plus is a door, not a refill of an empty week. Pause first. If Pro+ already made you eligible, stay. Read the both-subscriptions page if you already hold both for other reasons, and keep Heavy out of the cart until xAI prints a price.

What if overflow appeared and my invoice still says Hobby or Pro?

Cursor Pro at twenty includes Grok Bot now, so overflow on Pro means its weekly tier ran out. Hobby, the free plan, does not include Grok Bot, and a SuperGrok subscription counts only once it is linked. If you saw overflow language on Hobby, you are likely on the one-time trial or on a different invoice than you think. Confirm the live entitlement. The trial is limited usage, not a weekly pool with a published overflow slope. Do not convert panic into Ultra. Pause, spend nothing else, then pick a door from the cheapest-way page if the job repeats, usually Cursor Pro at twenty.

Should Overflow Push You to a Higher Grok Bot Plan
